In his first years, Baker traveled extensively with both their missionary parents. James Colson Baker, his father, was depressed and unemployment. Her mother Sonia Alane had left him when he turned nine. Baker and his dad moved to Denver in the United States, and they stayed in the home of his dad's aunt. Baker had to endure bullying from fellow children because of his lack of wealth. He began listening to rap as a the sixth grade. Before joining Bad Boy Records Baker released four mixtapes from 2007 to the year 2010. Delivering lyrics with the speed of a train, this Cleveland rapper experienced a meteoric growth in the second half of 2011, when Baker made the switch from releasing self-released mixtapes to working with well-known labels. After that, his career increased exponentially as every albums charted inside the top 10 albums.
